Duties and Responsibilities
Access Control & Entry Management
- Manage entry to the premises, ensuring only authorised individuals are allowed access.
- Check tickets, guest lists, or other credentials as required.
- Prevent entry to individuals who are underage, intoxicated, or acting in a disorderly manner, in line with licensing laws.
Customer Safety & Welfare
- Monitor patrons to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Provide assistance to vulnerable persons (e.g., individuals who are lost, unwell, or at risk).
- Carry out regular patrols of the premises, including licensed areas and surrounding perimeters.
Conflict Management
- Defuse and manage confrontational situations calmly and professionally.
- Remove individuals from the premises when necessary, using only reasonable force in accordance with the law and company policy.
Incident Response & Reporting
- Respond promptly to incidents such as fights, accidents, or breaches of licensing conditions.
- Report all incidents in the company’s incident log and to relevant authorities where required.
- Preserve evidence and maintain a secure scene in case of criminal activity.
Compliance with Laws & Regulations
- Adhere to all SIA licensing requirements and maintain a valid SIA Door Supervisor licence at all times while on duty.
- Comply with the Licensing Act 2003, health and safety legislation, data protection, and other relevant UK laws.
- Follow company security procedures, risk assessments, and safeguarding policies.
Communication & Liaison
- Maintain clear communication with venue management, colleagues, and emergency services.
- Provide accurate statements when required for police or licensing authority investigations.
Search Procedures
- Conduct searches of bags, clothing, or persons in line with legal powers, venue policy, and customer consent.
- Confiscate prohibited or dangerous items as per procedure and record appropriately.
Professional Conduct & Presentation
- Wear the designated uniform and SIA licence badge visibly at all times.
- Maintain a professional, approachable, and impartial manner when dealing with the public.
Skills
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence – must be held and in date at the time of application.
- Knowledge of UK licensing laws and security-related legal requirements.
- Strong conflict management and de-escalation skills.
- Excellent observation and situational awareness abilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills for interacting with the public, colleagues, and authorities.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, sound decisions.
- Physically fit and capable of standing/walking for long periods, and carrying out physical interventions if necessary.
- Professional appearance and high standards of personal conduct.
- Teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively with venue staff and other security personnel.
- Basic first aid knowledge (First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid certification preferred).
- Ability to complete accurate incident reports and maintain records.
- Commitment to confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding responsibilities.
Qualification
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence (essential).
- Minimum age 18 years (legal requirement).
- Right to work in the UK with proof of eligibility.
- Previous experience in door supervision, venue security, or customer-facing security roles (preferred but not essential).
- First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid qualification (preferred; training may be provided).
- Completion of SIA-approved training for Door Supervision, including conflict management and physical intervention modules.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete incident reports and read safety instructions.
Experience
- Previous experience working as a Door Supervisor, Security Officer, or in a customer-facing security role (preferred but not essential).
- Experience in crowd management, access control, and dealing with high-volume venues.
- Proven ability to handle conflict situations professionally and safely.
- Familiarity with UK licensing laws, venue safety requirements, and incident reporting procedures.
- Experience liaising with emergency services and venue management teams (advantageous).
